A bit of a gamble for the buyer? Not much risk for those buying right now, IMO, but those trying for a wash sale may find the price up some if Stephan comes through with a win before they can restore their positions.

As for the economy, well, not a rosy story according to some. In case you didn't catch the chief U.S. equity strategist for J.P. Morgan Securities on the tube last night, he projects no recovery before the end of next year, or possibly in 2003. Said the main reason is over capacity in many areas of the tech sector. Chip makers are a pretty good overall indicator, and they're running at only 60% capacity right now. The telecom sector is worst off, with fiberoptic companies seeing less than 5% utilization of the cables with which they carpeted the continent in the 1990's. Just to mention a few.

I've seen two or three others paint a very similar picture, believing the market indexes will hit new lows - really low - by the end of next year. All due to a continuing bad earnings picture.

On the hopeful side, there are others of course who are predicting a strong recovery by mid-year, so take your pick - heads or tails? I sure don't know.
