Jay, Platinum? Well, read this first. Old, but still germane. ak.planet.gen.nz

I attended those Paul Krugman lectures in Auckland along with crowds of others. They were interesting.

You'll notice that Keith Rankin suggests that if really pushed, [by Krugman monetary torture], Japanese will buy gold rather than spend their savings. Gold = platinum for these purposes.

So, yes, maybe platinum will be popular. Goodness me, I just checked a graph and some popularity for platinum already exists. kitco.com

Gold is going nowhere though kitco.com

I'll stick with my magical CDMA abstract cyberspace phragmented photons [GX notes for example] than Aztec Au speculative obsession. Corrosion resistance was probably quite exciting in the Iron Age, but I think it's time we moved on. Platinum is fine for gasoline-powered Otto cycle 20th century engine exhausts, but we are moving on from there too [one of these days]. Platinum is helpful in fuel cells, but I don't think fuel cells are going to be big deal any time soon. Too expensive. All that platinum for a start!

People want to communicate, eat, play, move and I'll stick with investments supporting those fundamental human needs. Platinum and gold are speculations on financial instability and collapse [or monetary expansion/dilution]. But whether the herd will stampede to gold or platinum is quite a gamble.
