Tapping broadband.
Detaining Arabs without reason for "questioning".
Unilaterally cancelling a defense treaty with Russia.
Why have a treaty? If countries can cancel at will what good is a treaty anyway. This should have been negotiated.

We have gone way way way overboard and I blame Bush.
What would we say if someone cancelled a treaty with us.
As far as I am concerned this cancellation gives any country the right to cancel any agreement with us.

What are we trying to accomplish anyway?
Bankrupt the nation.
Bush wants to build a missle defense system.
Against what? With whose $. At a cost of what?

The real threat is some nut smuggling in a bomb or bio weapon. In fact I ranted on this a few weeks before the disaster. Billions or is it trillions of $ will be flushed down the toilet.

If we want to spend federal $, then do it smart. Protect our borders. Beef up intelligence.

How are the coffers in your state? Illinois is sucking wind. Many others are worse. MN is thinking about raising taxes. What will that signal.

Bush is giving tax breaks to industries that do not need them (big oil). How are we going to pay for this? Biggest boom in history and what do we have to show for it?

The biggest retirement boom in history is just around the corner. What is the state of Social Security? Fewer workers will be making less supporting more folks retiring.

Are health care costs under control?

Switching my attack from Bush to Greenspan.....
Greenspan cares about only one thing right now and it has nothing to do with the economy. The only thing he cares about is his image. No tough actions from that clown, as he is just a babbling fool. I wonder if he is stupid enough to believe in what he is doing. I am not sure. But it it likely he can stave off financial collapse for a year or so. He can retire as the savior if he can prop up this house cards (or is it more like toilet paper with a hurricane approaching), just one more time. Let someone else raise rates after he is gone. Then the man that caused it all will sit back and lay blame.

PCs, phones, printers, are not a growth businesses anymore. Where is Gilder's PowerCosm plays going? FiberOptics.
How about too much capacity and too little profit margins.
Are we headed to do a Japan? Many point out big differences. I have too. But everything we are doing is digging us into a deeper hole. I am seriously thinking that we just might go the way of Japan. Meanwhile we sit back and poke at Japan about keeping bad debt on the books. The pot is calling the kettle black with our ENEs, corporate bankrupties, bailouts, loan loss provisions that are way too low, housing bubble leverages, etc etc etc.

Let LU go under. It probably should. Let JDSU go under. It probably should as well. Or NT and LU. Pick a couple and let a couple survive.
Let half the telcos go under. Why are banks lending more $ to LWIN anyway. They are nuts. LWIN is going under, and all that is happening is delay of inevitable.

If we want to stimulate the economy, instead of pushing on a string, why not eliminate capital gains tax. Totally. Overnight. This would have a couple great affects.
1) People would take some profits and probably spend them
2) People would take profits sooner and perhaps we would not see as many idiot runups as we have.

Instead we spend money fighting a cold war that has long been won.
Instead we continue to push on a string
Instead we urge people to spend $ on credit they do not have
Instead we terminate the 30 yr BOND instead of trying to borrow when money is cheap

UFB
We are headed to the sewer
The question is WHEN - not IF
The second half of this two part recession (assuming we do get a rebound here for 6-9 months) will be worse than the first half.
