I think your definition of a gap is wrong. A gap is not just the close but the whole range of the day.

So a gap exists when the previous day you trade 1000-1050 and let's say you close at 1030 for example (the close BTW is irrelevant), and the next day you trade 1070-1100. So that gives you a gap at 1050. The actual close price is irrelevant.

I would be interested to hear what other think here of what the definition of a gap is. That is how I've known gaps to be.
