Elmer wrote all the major OEM has dumped Athlon
So Compaq, HP, Sony, and Micron are what, mom and pop screwdriver shops?
And you complain that what I post is inaccurate....
It really galls you that AMD is continuing to gain share, despite everything Intel has done in an attempt to stop them.
Now Intel has trashed ASPs in desktop machines, because that's where AMD was strongest, and trained buyers that they should pay more for ultra-light notebooks and compact desktop systems.
But from next quarter forward, it's Intel that is shipping processors that use more power for a given level of performance and so need big desktop boxes and can't be used in ulrta-light notebooks - where the less power hungry Athlon has a huge advantage over the P4 core.
And AMD is making steady progress in the workstation/server market with new motherboard entries from Tyan, Asus, Abit, and Microstar coming out this month - all with 64bit/66MHZ PCI slots to accommodate 3 channel RAID controllers and Gigabit NICs.
As AMD moves to SOI in H2 next year, its advantage in notebooks and dense servers will become more and more compelling. While Intel has trashed ASPs in the one segment it will be strongest in next year. |
