>> There was already a Great Wall enterprise touting a CDMA1 system for many years running.

Are you referring to the Shanghai Great Wall Mobile Communications Co.? I could be wrong, but believe it first offered service in mid 1998, which isn't all that many years ago unless you are a trader. The Great Wall network was very small, and primarily significant as a test platform and showcase for the technical superiority of cdma over gsm. But the brilliant business negotiations between QCOM and the government of China really opened the door to the full scale commercial deployment that will open its doors to the public on January 8, 2002.

>> But, bottle of bubbly is indeed in order.

At last we agree <gg>. A bottle of bubbly is always appropriate during the holiday season, but in honor of Dr. J's accomplishment, I think I'll make it a Kristal toast on January 7th.
