I have a brother with cerebral palsy. He got a bad flu when a neonate, and stopped breathing for a few minutes. It did not affect his mind, but it did harm the motor areas of his brain. He is confined to a wheelchair, and needs help with most things. On the other hand, he gets around Washington DC by himself, and has a number of friends. He has served on city committees and even gotten an award from the mayor. Overall, he is glad to be alive.......
