American Power Conversion Redefines Remote Power Manageability with Innovative, Modular Network Management Card
biz.yahoo.com
WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing its commitment to extend remote management capabilities, American Power Conversion (APC) today announced the new Network Management Card EX. This card features a modular design that enables users to easily add options, such as environmental- monitoring, out of band access and network standards based security when needed, without requiring additional cards or card slots. The Network Management Card EX provides standards-based monitoring, control and event handling for APC uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and unattended remote shutdown for systems over a network.

``Based on the direct relationship between power availability and network availability, network administrators require control over their infrastructure,'' said Rob Johnson, vice president of APC's Availability Enhancement Group. ``Given this necessity, companies of all sizes are seeing the benefits of device management. With this new multi-interface Network Management Card, APC is bringing 'management to the masses' with another level of protection against downtime.''

APC's Network Management Card EX enables users to configure, control and monitor their APC UPSs via standards based management such as Web, SNMP, wireless application protocol (WAP), and Telnet. This new card functions at both 10 and 100baseT auto-sensing connection speeds to provide flexible expansion when faster network speeds are deployed.

Additional features and benefits of the Network Management Card EX include:

Data Logging -- The card records UPS data, such as voltages and load, with a description and time/date stamp to help diagnose UPS/power problems and prevent future problems from occurring. Users can view information through a browser or download to a spreadsheet;
Scheduling -- User-definable parameters allow user to shut down or reboot connected equipment and UPSs as required;
Event handling -- Users can receive notification of UPS-related events via email and then respond. Alerts can be sent to a pager, PDA or WAP enabled phone;
Unattended shutdown -- In the event of an extended power outage, the system will gracefully shutdown via APC's over-the-network shutdown software, PowerChute® Network Shutdown;
Integrates with PowerChute Inventory Manager -- When used in conjunction with APC's Network Management cards, PowerChute Inventory Manager enables IT Managers to capture, organize and access vital information concerning their APC power infrastructure; and
Remote Monitoring Service ready -- The card will ship ``APC Remote Monitoring Service'' ready, a purchasable option that alleviates the need for customer-based UPS management. APC's Remote Monitoring Service is an outsourced solution that proactively monitors UPSs and the surrounding environment 7x24 to enhance high availability in networking and facilities environments.
