Slacker,

<< Was the original launch date the first half of next year? >>

I'm a little fuzzy on that.

Last year at Capital Market Days I think Larry Paulson said Q1 2002.

In late June Pekka Vartiainen stated that every CDMA handset launched next year will be 1xRTT capable and that the product line would include high-end/mid-tier handsets, but he gave no dates.

Since then I've heard several conflicting things but can't remember exactly which presentation they came from, perhaps Q2 earnings.

I got the impression that they might in fact have a 1x model in qualification, not necessarily their own chip, but that was what I intuited.

<< The transition to 1x in Korea has been faster than I expected. >>

Me too, and particularly since we have not really heard much about services.

The one comment from Cap Markets this year on CDMA related to Nokia planning to move aggressively in Korea, and that would necessitate a 1x and a chip other than their own manufacture.

They have been pretty consistent about their own chip being suited to the Americas.

I've heard a few rumblings about Nokia using a Samsung 1x component, but that could be sheer speculation and somebody may be confusing the DRAM Samsung will supply.

<< Nokia may need 1x handsets by the third or fourth quarter of next year. >>

I would say 3rd at the latest and ideally end of Q2, and that would mean they would have to get into qualification queue soon if they are not already there.
