All things are possible Mark. The cold market has the potential to support more than one product. There are plenty of folks who will take the pill and plenty who will use the nasal gel.

Pleconaril has a few hills to climb. I would be surprised if the FDA gives its blessings the first shot out of the barrel. The urgency to approve a drug for a cold cure may not be very compelling. Aviron has been wrestling with the FDA for approval of their flu mist for three years now.

Though someday pleconaril may be non prescription that isn't likely to be any time soon. In the mean time, I don't see a clamoring to go to the doctor for a cold prescription. This is particularly so for a drug that only seems to knock a day off the duration(albeit symptoms abate sooner).

Finally, there are plenty of folks, including myself, who take as few internal drugs as possible. What you find objectionable about Zicam, I find attractive. Homeopathy evokes safety and in this case effectiveness. To each his own.

There hasn't been a wholesale sell off of GUMM and I don't expect one as a result of any future VPHM news. Pleconaril will have its place in hospitals and with those who will visit their doctor for colds and have plenty of insurance. Zicam sales are, IMO, not likely to suffer any time soon.
