2. Tyson Accused of Conspiracy to Smuggle Illegal Aliens Chattanooga, Tennessee: Tyson Foods Inc. is accused of conspiring to smuggle illegal aliens across the Mexican border to its U.S. poultry processing plants, the Justice Department said. A federal grand jury in Chattanooga returned a 36-count indictment earlier this month against the largest U.S. chicken processor, the government said. The indictment, unsealed today, accuses Tyson executives and managers of conspiring to import and transport the workers to 15 company plants. Springdale, Arkansas-based Tyson cultivated a corporate culture that condones the hiring of illegal workers to maximize profits, the indictment says. Company executives and managers are accused of helping illegal aliens obtain false documents allowing them to work in the U.S. between 1994 and June 2001. ``The bottom line on the corporate balance sheet is no excuse for criminal conduct,'' said Assistant Attorney General Michael Chertoff, head of the Justice Department's criminal division.
The trouble is, the whole meat packing industry has done the same thing, and its all been swept under the rug, using such excuses as "these are jobs that Americans won't take".Now we find out that it was indeed, part of a corporate conspiracy to oust American workers from well-paid jobs and bring in cheap labor to replace them. Thousands of good jobs were lost in the beef and pork industry also, to fine, hardworking people in Iowa and the rest of the midwest. I find it sad, and more than that, a disheartening indictment of what has been lost in this country over the past several decades.......honor, loyalty, trust, and obligation toward our fellow countrymen, all in the pursuit of maximizing profits.
I'm beginning to seriously dislike what corporate America has come to stand for these days..............the average American is being sold down the river, and it makes me want to throw up.
