shareholders don't want to get their hands on earnings, they trust that the officers know what to do with all the cash - especially that which they take home in salary and from option exercises, since the officers can put these profits back into the economy buying lots of foie gras and recreational vehicles so that we can all benefit. Dividends are a thing of the past just like horse buggies, gold, wars, and hard times. I'm sure in the coming years troubled pension funds will just be able to securitize their anticipated future yields and pay disbursements through sales of those to the federal reserve so we don't have a thing to worry about, just relax.
