The "turtle remark" was about making comparisons to the 1970s... I think it's valid by any objective criteria. How was 'stagflation' 'cured'? well, the 'stag' part of it was reversed by falling energy prices (industrial economies became more energy efficient after a period of innovation and structural adjustment, and OPEC overplayed it's hand).
