Do you need cookies? what good are they

You don't need them but at times they are useful. Say you had a portfolio on one of the financial sites they track the stocks that you want to follow by way of a cookie. SI places a cookie on your computer so you don't have to login every time you visit SI. Some cookies are considered harmful in that they track your movements on the web and are used to target your ads by some sites.
