Gottfried, please add that I think it is a mistake to befriend a wild raccoon because it puts the raccoon at great risk. If a raccoon has lost his fear of humans & walks up to strangers, they may think he must be rabid to be unafraid, or they may just be the kind of people who don't need much of a reason to kill.

BTW, a rabid animal moves in a stumbling way. It looks sick & disoriented. Very different from an animal who has had human contact & just isn't afraid of people.

Also, The metal can will work with bears too, but you need a heavier gauge metal. :)
