Presumably, acting against America's perceived interests is more honorable. But its purpose and effectiveness would leave something to be desired.

I'm sure even some politicians have cringed when FP attempts proved bloody embarrassments. Yet pursuing America's best interests should always remain the central aim, even if the policies backfire. When a FP choice is between two evils, one can't simply refuse them both and walk away.
