Maybe not. Maybe trade tariffs. Maybe unequal trade due to political shenanigans...

Right on. Half the economic problems the underdeveloped world have are the tariff barriers and AGRICULTURAL SUBSIDIES of the US and EU.

Look at the extremely unsatisfactory outcome of the last WTO meeting in Doha.

You have to export to get imports. You have to import to get exports.

The developed world stops them from doing these things.

The exact word, given the rubbishy talk of third world economic reform from US, EU, and World Bank, is not 'injustice', but 'hypocrisy'. And that's every bit as infuriating as injustice - tho I gotta say the two are usually buggy bedmates.

Have to look at the macro picture , then drill down to what's happening each place.

Theoretical example. Some underdeveloped country exchanges it's mercantilist economy for a capitalist one, kicks out the kleptocrats, installs democratic government and an honest central bank that lets interest rates be determined by the market. But at this stage the economy there is still essentially agricultural and everyone's dirt poor and they can't sell their product to the US or EU or (for sure),Japan.

Underdeveloped country will become more prosperous because they've done the right things but it's going to take a lot longer than if they have free trade with developed world and weren't subject to the baleful influence of DW's subsidies.

Conclusion easily drawn in UC is that DW doesn't really want them to be too successful....
