Tony, Re: "I understand that AMD has predicted a record quarter in units of processors sold, and that they do well with DIYers, in Germany and some other places. However, are they completely giving up on US retail? The buying public are walking through these stores by the gazillions, especially during the holidays. They're going to forget AMD exists. I guess Jerry and henchmen know what they're doing."
Like I already theorized, I think Jerry is buying all the Athlons to tile the floor and walls of the bathroom in his Bel Air mansion. That's why he insisted that the Athlon packaging be changed to green, so that it went along with his current color scheme. As for AMD losing brand presence in retail stores (even in their home town!), that's only of secondary importance. Primary importance goes to Jerry and his ego. ;-)
But on a more serious note, AMD used to have a large retail presence when they sold 7.7 million CPUs. I find it hard to believe that they will hit the 8.3 million record that some are predicting, especially since they have now lost major retail market share. Since things obviously don't add up, I'll throw in a far out theory. Could Sanders be pumping up the stock price again by predicting a great quarter, only to warn that they won't be breaking any records at the last minute (after he dumps his options, of course)? A year ago, I wouldn't have believed that a CEO would be stupid enough to do this - twice. But I guess you never know with ol' Jerry running the ship.
