Joel:

Good to be back.

I can't remember when I have put in as much time out in the field as I have this selling season, but I wanted to be very sure of my perceptions before moving back into the market.

While the general mood out there is upbeat (largely as a result of the amazing results achieved in the war on terrorism, I believe), nevertheless, the economy continues to erode at a nasty pace. Greenspan can delay the roll-over but he can't steer around it. The economy's left breast is well and truly into the wringer and we are going to pass through that debt-reducing device sooner or later.

Most stock market participants have kept their heads deep in the sand, hoping for a return to the excesses of the past. Unfortunately, the economy's continuing slide ensures the opposite. As noted before, until the lay-offs stop, there is no possibility of an economic reversal.

Best, Earlie
