Dan3:

"So, it may be that Intel's getting 40% yields, and telling itself internally that those are "great news!"

If they'd been expecting 70% (or better) yields, it would go far to explain their present shortfall in production."

Once again, sounds ver similar to the P3 fiasco when it hit 700 MHz wall...(and once hitting the 700 MHz wall, the P3 staggered and sputtered on its way to squeezing out another 300 MHz before conceding the race at 1.13 MHz)...
INTC is making much of its 2.0 gig P4's recapture of the MHz lead, but it sounds like they're having much difficulty yielding any 2.0 gig P4's in any meaningful quantity...What's more, if INTC is encountering such poor P4 yields at 2.0 gig, then an overdose of faith is required to conclude that production is going to be much improved in q1...It just doesn't get easier as INTC moves up the P4 MHz ramp, all the more difficult in the midst of AMD's relentless pressure with its remarkably successful Athy XP!!!
