As long as I was on SI anyway...

UNVC was up about 2.7 fold (167%) this week on a huge surge in volume. The stock is now at 24 cents a share, a level demanding all potential investors to exercise EXTREME caution with this stock, recent performance notwithstanding.

I am familiar with the Univec's history of production problems for their syringes. There always seemed to be this illogical dichotomy between the worldwide (vis-a-vis the UN and many NGOs) demand for their product(s) and their inability to secure a stable relationship with a manufacturer. In my view, that was one of the major, if not THE major, cause(s) of the horrific historical performance of the company...and the stock.

If the licensing arrangement announced earlier this week with Terumo (http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/011217/172455_1.html ) represents a true break, if it is the beginning of a long-term, stable association with a reliable manufacturer/distributor, then Univec is about to undergo the most positive development in the company's history.

Shareholders have learned to be extremely skeptical about any announcements from this company and thus an attitude of cautious optimism regarding the recent developments would even be wildly enthusiastic. While the licensing arrangement does appear to be a significant break from the past - it certainly is the only significant, and significantly positive, news release in the last year - I believe most shareholders will practice one mantra for the foreseeable future:

Time will tell.
