Glenn, the following comments are strictly for Amati threads because I don't regularly read any other well attended threads.

My take is, there are few regular posters (myself included) who read & post regardless of their current holdings. Some others appear and disappear based on their holdings. But when I see a large number of newcomers, I interpret that as renewed interest in the stock (either for going long or short). I also think there are lots of 'silent' readers who may end up buying the stock in question when they see many posts on a particular thread figuring it's a popular stock bound to move.... I may be reading too much into this, but this is my interpretation.
