this report sounds a little fishy...i doubt the details are correct.
detcord looks like a plastic rope...it is filled with explosives (petn in my day) and used to join multiple charges together. primarily it is used to get a simultaneous detonation of multiple charges without using a series of electrical blasting caps.
C-4 is the military plastic explosive...kinda like white putty in appearance and consistency.

both are very high order explosives...but are also very stable. both burn easily, hot and fast but neither would explode from contact with a match.

i have used little balls of C-4 to heat coffee in the field and i have set off detcord hundreds of times, neither smells like sulpher as is being reported.
