A couple of months ago I was shopping for a second monitor for my trading station. I did a bunch of reading, then went to Fry's and looked at dozens of monitors. I ended up buying a no-name 19" CRT for $150. It had decent specs and an adequate image and has worked fine for displaying charts. I was not too happy with the image quality on the TFT monitors and they are quite a bit more expensive. The only advantage in TFT is A) you are rolling in dough and price is no object; B) you are very limited in work space and thus the smaller size of the TFT monitors is vital.

My suggestion is go to a store where you can see fifteen or twenty different monitors displaying live images and get a feel for what improvement you get in image quality for the extra dollars.
