There is technology that detects Plastic explosives and anything else. The Israeli's have used profiling(not banning) for years. there are civil solutions to this problem, they are not easy nor will they be loved by civil liberty nuts. I dont think there is anything wrong with racial profiling by police or Customs agents if done properly. I think 25% of all black youth between the ages of 18-25 have been incarcerated. Why wouldnt you stop Blacks more then whites if they fit that profile? Why wouldnt you stop Middle Easterners at airports and interview them if they fit the terrorist profile? If you worked for an advertising and marketing company they profile by age, religion and Ethnicity. Its correct procedure. The problem really lies on the abuse of power by profiler's. One bad Policemen or many(in the case of Los Angeles) ruins the whole theoretical idea of profiling. This is because just because your profiled does not give a cop the right to shoot you, be disrespectfull, or rude. Unfourtunatly there is an inherent Racism in Law enforcement that makes profiling a racial issue. IE profiling is a good Idea if done correctly, however I dont think it can be done correctly. It is the old creed by PLATO about Police and military's recponsibilities to honor their societies. The question is can we profile in customs better then we have in police.
