John, Merry Christmas. God Bless our servicemen. This HWP-CPQ merger is a very bad idea for HWP but a better idea for CPQ. How this relates to the future of SUNW is also very interesting. SUNW as you know has over $6.5 BLN in its corporate treasury. This power is not only to be able to shrink margins but to do significant R&D. If you have read Scott McNealy's biography, you will see that his strategy has always been to fight for the tops of the hill positions, to be able to maintain this position for as long a time as posible.

I believe that as the world economy rebounds in 3Q 02 the companies who have the competeive advantage will reign.

Also there's a question of long-term staying ability when a major entity makes a significant purchase. Do you think a municipality like Atlanta,GA is going to purchase a system from a company that will not be there in three years to service and enhance the initial purchase?

Atlanta, GA has acually just contracted with SUNW to consolidate driver's license registrations and exams with other departments of government.

I think, and agree, with this Q & A that the strong will survive over the next few years and the meek will fade. I think there will be a significant bigger piece of the pie available for the remaining companies. Sun Microsystems will be standing as one of those companies.
