What's the explosive that's similar to C4 and smells like candy? Semtex?

I had some blasting done in some river plain ground and that guy used something that looked like Jimmy Dean 1 pound sausage packs. My idiot partner tried shooting one from 50' with a .22 and sadly nothing happened. Now a hit from a 7mm belted magnum at 100 yards would set it off.

I thought the det cord was a neat thing. The blaster said it exploded at 6,000' per second. A blow 100 yards long seemed like it all went up at the same time.
