The UN is just that... the UNITED Nations.
I believe the US , intentionally or otherwise , is loosing or dismissing an opportunity for a greater World Order that MAY have the influence to persuade countries to solve their differences WITHOUT the necessity of Military Confrontation.
Some would argue that the US , who's people value Democracy so highly and are eager to broadcast this to the " rest of the world ", are indeed themselves pursuing a dictatorial or totalitarian position in the UN for their own interests, or for that of those countries who " get with the program ".
Now don't take this as an offence.I believe the current War On Terrorism is justified and long over due , and the UN is partly to blame for indecisive positioning in the past.I also believe the ME situation is solvable, but only if “ they “ actually want it.There are people , religions and nations in the World that know only violence and aggression ,anything less would appear weak and without resolve, and in some cases against their very reason for existance, having being brainwashed for centuries.
It took a kick in the nuts to the US to wake EVERYONE up .People are and were dying all over the world for some time up to that fateful day , but because it was " over there " , there was no resolve from either the US OR The UN to confront these autocracies.
So I somewhat agree with your thread header , but would modify it to read :
GET THE US IN OR OUT OF THE UN NOW!
You can't be selective in a global democracy and expect credibility........you become no better than those you deplore. If the US pulls out , it should pull all the way back to the homeland , not such a bad idea either. IMHO…..
