Dear Monica:

You are not aware that Intel is also losing money? They do not include labor compensation via stock options. Yeah, many other companies including AMD do not as well but, AMD has far less in stock options in dollars per share terms. Intel only made $0.03 a share last quarter and $0.20 in the last three quarters with quite a bit of other income and other things. If you add in the costs of providing shares for those employee stock options that, due to the Enron fiasco, the SEC is now making noises must be included as an expense in the P&L, Intel lost far more per share so far this year (about $0.80) than AMD.

Oops! Broke your bubble as to who was making money. If you would look at net worth over the last 3 quarters, AMD's actually went up and Intel went down, big time! The later includes such things as that employee compensation through stock options and many other "bury the problems" places. Is it completely safe in all situations? No but, the exceptions are rather easy to spot.

Pete
