For the holidays from our hometown area..... This was said to have really happened--told to me several years back--and one of the most heartwarming stories I know: Two elderly women--widowed and alone decided to have a fun weekend with dinner and theatre at one of the major hotels in Motown. On the final evening--they decided to have a late nightcap. Already in their robes and slippers--one offered to go down the hall to get some ice. Of course, as luck would have it, the machine, was 'out of order'--so the woman took the elevator to a lower floor--filled the bucket with ice--and returned to the elevator. When the door opened, inside the elevator were two of the largest, most menacing looking men she had ever encountered. Smiling bravely, she entered the elevator--the doors closed--the elevator started up--and then one of the men said: 'hit the floor'. The poor woman collapsed onto the floor--ice flying everywhere. The two men helped her up--and explained to her that was their way of saying to 'press the floor button' she wanted. They took her back to the ice machine to refill her bucket--and then escorted her back to her room. When she knocked on her door, her roommate who had begun to worry over the delay of her friend--with the chain on the door--opened it a crack--took one look and slammed the door shut! After explaining the situation, the woman finally opened the door--and after a bit more talk-- both women invited the men in to join them for their nightcap. They had a wonderful conversation and visit--and they discovered that the men were working as body guards for a world famous celebrity who was performing in the area at that time. As for the 'rest of the story' --when the women went down to check out the next morning--they were informed that they owed nothing--their bill had already been taken care of.
