This falls under the category of "close but no cigar". I was having breakfast on "the drag" near the university. I noticed a guy sitting by himself quite awhile, not eating. I finally figured he was inside the restaurant to escape the cold. After I paid and was leaving I decided I couldn't walk away from a person in need. I went to him and asked if he would like something to eat. He said, "huh?". I repeated myself. He said "no thanks, man, I work here." Pay it forward.
