Really? If the U.S. is so fat and lazy, why is it that we lead in the number of hours worked per week? Why is it that we are the world's largest economy? Why is it that almost all of the new and most creative technologies are coming out of the U.S.?
The sex, drugs, and rock and roll culture of the 70's is certainly not dead, but it has been marginalized. Today's generation Xers, which are coming into their own in the workplace are more individualistic, less likely to rely on the government for their retirement, more accepting of women and minorities in the workplace because they've never seen a workplace without them in equal measure, and more at ease with competition based on intellect and good old fashion sweat.
Other nations and movements that are jealous of the U.S.'s success or just want to malign the U.S. lump all Americans into the generalized categories. They say we're lazy, we're soft, and we don't know how to work hard and how to save. They're wrong. |
