Nick,

Thanks for the response. I'm the only user of this PC (or at least I'm supposed to be). What I'm looking for is something to prevent Win98 SE from booting to the desktop ... unless I enter a password. You probably read in my reply to TC that the little program he referred me to works well as long as the computer is running. The entire taskbar including the "start" button disappears and the cursor has its movement limited to the "SystemLock" box until a password is entered.

Any ideas as to how to eliminate the Windows password box that appears as Windows is booting... or maybe even solving the "what I'd like to do problem"? I'm just trying to prevent anyone from even getting to the desktop without a password. I'd upgrade to W2K if I could just do an upgrade, but I can't reinstall all the software programs (some are custom programs that have been modified using PCAnywhere so I don't have up-to-date installation disks for those programs) and I understand the only way to really upgrade properly is to do a reformat and clean install of the OS. I do have tape backups of the HD (do them every night), but the registry wouldn't be the same going from WIN98SE to W2K so I'd have to do a reinstall of all the software and that's not practical. I'm not even sure if there is an upgrade from 98SE to W2K.

Thanks for all your help. It's really much appreciated.

Marty
