Elmer: Where have you seen anything showing AMD was not sold out?

AMD have repeatedly claimed that they can sell everything they make out of Dresden. The same, however, has not been said of Austin. Furthermore, with Dresden only partially ramped and Austin still fully ramped (which is no longer the case, btw), AMD sold only roughly equal units from each fab (and this dispite even the die size advantage of the Duron).

Regarding yields&#133 To try and make any reasonable estimate of yields based on publicly available data is an exercise in futility - as you well know. Intel has many times the capacity of AMD, yet produces only ~ 3 times the units. So by your logic, if AMD yields are poor, Intel yields are much worse.

Neither is likely the case, however. Industry observers (examples include the EETimes, EBN and the like) all seem to indicate that both AMD and Intel have yields far above the industry norm on any given process.
