This debate was addressed by Grace Zaccardi long ago on the BAY thread. Whatever minor quantity of silver that is used in contact points is dwarfed by the loss in the reduction of use in the transformation in photography to digital. Recently this has been discounted because the reduction hasn't been strong, but the full effect hasn't been applied yet. The transformation to digital represents but one technological change that is developing due to advances in materials science. Every PM is a sitting duck because for each of the industrial uses of PMs there are many better and substantially cheaper alternatives. They aren't employed because transition to them at scale is too expensive. It also helps that PMs are cheap relatively. If they got expensive, the game is over indefinitely for PMs. This leaves only investment demand, hate and distrust, as the motive behind the pursuit of PMs and their potential price appreciation.
