Our embargo of Cuba is not enlightened.

Disagree.

The Vietnam War was not enlightened.
Strongly disagee.

The invasion of Grenada was not enlightened.
Strongly disagree.

Our position on the Canadian softwood lumber dispute (a huge issue up here in the Northwest) is not enlightened.

I don't know enough about it to comment about it.

Our support of various banana republics in Central America over the past 100 years has not been enlightened.

As far as my wife, I keep my mouth shut. Me too.

As for my country, I speak out. That's our right.

Therein lies the difference between how to treat your country and your wife.

I never claimed any different. But the issue was a perception you voiced that the US is "bossy". I submit that in a world of international politics, this argument is a non-starter. It is, or should be, the goal of US foreign policy to advance US interests, especially security interests to the exclusion of others...
