The problem, as I see it, is that you believe in the principles of freedom and democracy, bin Laden believes in the principles of the supremacy of fundamentalist Islamic principles, and Hitler believed in the historical inevitability and virtue of the triumph of the Germanic race and nation. You all believe fervently in your own principles.
And you each seek (or sought) to impose your principles on other nations and peoples who do not necessarily want to adhere to those same principles, because you are convinced that your principles are the only Right and True principles.
That's what makes you ALL scary, IMO. And, frankly, pretty much equally scary.
Also, given the philosophy you have expoused in the past few messages, you need to give up the phrase enlightened self interest. There's no room for enlightenment in your philosophy, any more than in bin Laden's or Hitler's.
I think it was maried, but I may be wrong, but whoever it was, they recently defended evangalists going door to door to convert people. Liked to see people who lived out their principles. That's fine with me, too. BUT, if they came to the door with a gun and said "convert to my faith or I'll shoot you dead" that would be a whole different matter.
That's where you are at internationally, I fear.
And no, I have never thought of the use of cruise missles and daisy cutters in the same breath with tiddlywinks. |
