The problem is that England artificially divided up the region- the prerogative of a colonialist imperial power- and then gave away land belonging to people living on it, to the Jews as a homeland.

When the British ruled Palestine, they gave the eastern three-quarters to their Hashemite allies, and they permitted Jews to buy land and move into the western quarter; they did not give any land to the Jews. All during the Mandate, Arabs moved into western Palestine faster than Jews due to availability of jobs at good wages. In 1939, the British shut off Jewish immigration in response to Arab riots. In 1947, the UN, not the British, voted on the partition of Palestine. So if you are going to accuse anybody of "giving" land, it should be the UN.

. A great majority of Palestinians merely want peace and stability

I hope so. Unfortunately, the Palestinians have an unfortunate political tradition of calling their moderates 'traitors' and shooting them. There certainly are no moderates in power now, unless you count quasi-political position of Sari Nusseibeh, whose bloodlines protect him.
