Off topic.... NO RIGHTS FOR ALIENS>>>
Hi MM, Well, you did say NO RIGHTS. You didn't say some rights. So I guessed NONE meant 'open season on'. Which of course you didn't mean, but you did say NO rights.
It's not a simple matter to treat non-citizens as non-entities.
I'm sure you don't like the analogy to Nazi 'no rights' ideas. That's why I pointed out the similarity, so you would see very clearly that 'no rights' is a bad idea.
Some ex-Palestinians, now USA citizens, are wanting compensation for false arrest and lack of due care and attention by their captors [or whatever the legal jargon is for illegal imprisonment]. It's a tricky area protecting public safety while also protecting individual freedoms.
<These people believe that they can do what they want here, and that they do not have to oblige by our laws. Yet when we make laws all of a sudden they dont like they decide to hide behind our constitution. Again Ive never said we should send anyone to jail, just throw them out.>
I don't think it's true that they think they can do what they want and ignore USA laws. Of course people all use the constitution - that's what it's about. That's the operating system of the USA. It's not a matter of whether they want to hide behind it or not, they don't have a choice, the constitution is the rule book. They have to use it whether they like it or not. If you break a law and the constitution, you are still bound by the constitution and rule of law. People don't become beyond the pale by a transgression of the laws. They are still stuck within the law and the constitution. That's one of the main reasons the USA is such a huge success. Barbarous places like Zimbabwe play fast and loose with the constitution and have imperial rule by whim. It doesn't sell well.
I don't think it's accurate to say the USA is now at war. The Taleban and Osama's mob have been decimated. There are remnants. I think it's fair to say the war is over. Not surprisingly, the USA/Britain and company won.
If a few Arabs are interrogated a bit "harshly" .... then we are not talking about the survival of the free world. We are talking about the Nazi style. Depending on just what you mean by 'harshly'.
You say you are on the front line, well, we had French State Terrorism here, supported by the USA and Britain [who did NOT lend a hand to New Zealand against that terrorist Mitterand]. So we are also on the front line. A Kiwi died in the last plane to crash on WTC day, and being a martial arts exponent, I imagine he was right there in the front line and was part of the prevention of further destruction. There is no front line. There are no sidelines. Peter Blake was shot through the heart by pirates in Brazil who were robbing them. Stan Shaw, another Kiwi, was decapitated by Chechen 'freedom fighters' while installing telecoms [the USA was supporting those 'freedom fighters' until recently, when they got attacked at WTC by the same gang and figured that maybe the support of criminals around the world is not such a smart idea, even if it was against the big bad wolf of Russia - now they have figured out that Putin is not as bad as a Chechen 'freedom fighter' with Osama links]. A family of Kiwis was blown up in the Tower of London [a tourist attraction] by the IRA which is supported by crazed moronic Irish American 'freedom fighters'. The front line is everywhere.
Every cloud has a silver lining and with the WTC attacks, the USA is now less keen on terrorism as a political method. Pakistani terrorists in India are getting the screws put on them. Arafat and co are not going to be able to create mayhem. Saddam better keep a low profile [I guess he's too late to do that].
I don't think it's the difference between haves and have-nots which leads to the attacks. Osama was a have and he led the attacks. Saddam is have and he loves confrontation and attack. It's a bit more complicated than have and have-not. Any number of have-nots are not the slightest interested in theft and mayhem.
It'll be interesting to see how the USA handles aliens. So far, so good [apart from perhaps a few glitches].
Milosevic will be watching with interest too, because he is in court for crimes against aliens. It's silly, in my opinion, to have 'rules of war'. There are no rules of war; the victor decides what the rules were, and who committed 'crimes', after the event.
<The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few? >
Good old communism. The collective above the individual. Utilitarianism writ large. From the few according to their ability, to each according to their needs. The individual merely a servant of the state.
<The only way to get rid of a snake is to kill it> Actually, you can catch it and put it in a zoo. Or just leave it alone in the bush.
"No Rights!" - It's a slippery slope, be careful venturing out onto it.

PS: That film which apparently showed Osama saying he done it, shows a dramatic gain and loss of weight by him. He was thin in the first film, then fat and jovial in the found film, then really thin in this latest film. I wonder what explains the dramatic weight changes. |
