TROY, Mich., Dec. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Delphi Automotive Systems (NYSE: DPH) will showcase its Satellite Digital Audio Receivers in several original equipment applications at the 2002 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas January 8-11, 2002. Since being first to attain OEM manufacturing contracts to provide receivers for both satellite broadcasters, Delphi has arranged to supply several major vehicle manufacturers with satellite-capable audio systems.

The light and heavy duty new vehicle markets will have a significant impact on the market adopting satellite radio, according to Jeff Owens, president of Delphi Delco Electronics Systems.

``New vehicle owners are traditionally early adopters of new technologies and play an important part in the benefits learning curve of these products,'' Owens stated. ``Satellite radio has already started to gain market momentum as consumers discover the high quality, broad choice and conveniences this medium offers. This momentum will increase as more new cars and trucks are equipped with satellite radio receiver technology.''

Satellite radio provides more than 100 stations and makes radio service available coast to coast in the continental U.S.* The digital-quality music, news and entertainment are available to drivers for a nominal monthly service fee.

``Finally, you can tune in to your favorite programming and not have it fade out as you drive,'' Owens said. ``This convenience compared with the limited receiving zones of terrestrial broadcast will further drive consumers to satellite radio.''

Delphi's satellite receivers all have multi-function text displays to handle the required information for the satellite display. The alphanumeric display shows the station title, song title, artist name and program type.

The current design includes a remote receiver equipped with a custom chipset designed to make the radio satellite-ready. The radios also include the regular AM/FM frequencies and playback features.

Delphi was the first company to install an in-dash radio in a vehicle more than 65 years ago and was an early adopter of FM frequency radios for new vehicles. The company produces more than five million audio systems for new cars and trucks each year. Under the brand name Delco, Delphi provides end- to-end product solutions for audio systems including antennas, tuners, audio amplifiers and speakers.

Now, first in providing satellite radio for new cars, Delphi will play an important pioneering role in the roll out of satellite radio as an original equipment option.

``We are proud to be out in front with this blockbuster technology,'' Owens said.
