There is not a single person in the world that now contests QCOM's IPR for WCDMA. QCOM's chipsets are going to make it into Europe with CDMA2000 & WCDMA/GPRS backward's compatibility. (apostrophe for kayaker and the ap).

I think that GPRS is much closer to market and will be reinforced with some CDMA2000/WCDMA/GPRS configuration to make European and US standards identical for 3G. 3g will end up with dual 3G air interface requirements for synchronous CDMA2000 and asynchronous WCDMA/GPRS equipment.

I really like QCOM's position on the approach. Thanks to the ZIF technology for 6000 chips, they can make all standards compatible on the same piece of silicon. Now, let's hope the phone makers can decide to start selling some high end models in the US.
