I wasn't terribly surprised by the recent decision to not provide US forces for peacekeeping. But I was surprised to see that we already have made a "committment" to modernize the Afghan military. The more things change the more they stay the same.

The NyTimes reported recently that the US was a scrooge. We give less money to foreign aid than most Americans
realize.

So true. We like to think we are so generous, but on a %GDP basis we're pretty cheap. Though we are generous on our sales of personnel land mines.
