LPS5 Boxing Picks, 2001
This is the first full year of picks done on the Sweet Science thread, and in May - thanks to all of you terrific contributing pals of mine adding immeasurably to the experience, we'll notch two years discussing the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune within, beneath, and behind the squared circle.
And outrageous fortune it was this year, reflecting - a bit sadly, at times - the tumultuous nature into which the world simultaneously descended. Underdogs shone this year as champions fell by the wayside and showed us, as we can all benefit from being reminded from time to time, that in boxing and beyond: no condition is permanent.
Long story short: it was a year of leptokurtosis, where anything that could happen did. My picks, especially as compared with those of the 2000, reflect that. But that's what keeps us coming back, and made it a great time.
