Hi David, <<diversification ... nothing to do with China>>

I diversify away from China by steadfastly not investing capital in China, except for momentary specs and a smattering of liquid shares (largest position is China Mobile, about 1% of NAV); only time. I am too close to the situation and see too much of the muck.

<<Howard Gorgeous>> is/was MD of South China Securities, a pretty conservative commentator generally. Many HK based professionals dabble in China-based sideline activities ... bars, brothels, ..., manufacturing enterprises and plantations (variation of contract farming as opposed to outright ownership of land).

My in-law, besides trading and clipping coupons, operates a Japanese horse raddish operation in Fujian province in cooperation with a Japanese trading firm,, and if you remember, the bankrupt Indonesian Chinese guy with the big boat, he is running a pear plantation in Shangdong province.

I will not get involved in any of these activities because I do not wish to be that wealthy for that amount of heart ache.

Chugs, Jay
