>Pakistan supports the Kashmiri freedom struggle and right of self-determination in Kashmiri which it believes should be part of Pakistan according to 1947 partition plan.>

Contradictory statement. Pakistan has never really supported Kashmir's right for self-determination. (Pakistan also gifted a small portion of Kashmir to China!). In 1947, when Kashmir's ruler was still wavering between acceding to one nation or the other or remaining independent, Pakistan attacked Kashmir. India waited till the ruler of Kashmir acceded to India before sending its troops to defend the Pakistani attack. Also, remember that in 1947, there were 565 princely states in the sub-continent that had to accede or remain independent. The rulers (and not the people) of those princely states decided whether to join Indian or Pakistan or remain independent.

Pakistan has defended the right of Kashmir to self-determination just like they have defended the right of Afghanistan for self-determination. Look at the results there.

The Kashmiris were an important part of the Indian Freedom struggle. Their party was the National Conference, which changed its name from the Muslim Conference to National Conference to show solidarity with a secular India and to accentuate its differences with the Muslim League that wanted a Pakistan. The National Conference was lead by Sheikh Abdullah, who was a very popular leader. Only after his death in 1982 has the problem in Kashmir become a violent one (thanks to Pakistan's help). From 1947 to 1980, Kashmir was very peaceful. Even during the Indo-Pak war in 1971, the Kashmiris did not show much sympathy for Pakistan. Not that they were completely happy with India's Center. Neither are many other Indian states. So many Indian states have been formed during the last 50 years while the state of Jammu and Kashmir remained static. Just a couple of years ago, three new states were formed. So much can be accomplished without terrorism.
