PORTFOLIO AUDIT, December 28th, 2001
Turns out that I screwed up somewhere down the line, and I had about $3000 more cash in the portfolio than I actually had. I probably pushed the "+" on my calculator rather than the "-" key when doing calculations. So I audited the trade record (as recorded on this thread), and here is the portfolio:
  Cash: $6258.03 ASCL: 225 @ 4.11 = $925 INCY: 50 @ 20.24 = $1012 KEM: 60 @ 17.85 = $1071 MDY: 11 @ 93.80 = $1032 MTP: 220 @ 5.60 = $1232
  Portfolio value: $11530
  Starting capital, January 21, 2001: $10,000 MDY performance since January 21, 2001: -0.8% (dividend adjusted). S&P 400 portfolio performance since January 21, 2001: 15.3%
NOTE these results are unrealistic: They do not include frictional costs (i.e. commissions), and taxes, and all that other nasty stuff, including the ability to execute stock transactions on odd-lot sizes.
There were 57 trades made in the portfolio so far up to date. Using a broker like Interactive Brokers ($1/100 shares), the commissions would have been roughly $63, so that would have adjusted the performance down 0.1%. |
