One testing structure is usually a ring oscillator,
a closed loop of odd number of basic inverting gates.
It allows to estimate the working speed of a die.
Other structures may include simple transistors surrounded
by contact pads, or even just two pads to measure
resistance of polysilicon and metal layers.
Ask your buddy Elmer about other structures. He
claims to be an expert in chip testability. I am not.
