i guess my question "will the drive names change," should really be: will the drive letters change? when i format c & e, will d become c, and f become d and so on. Or, possibly, since c will be formatted as an active partition, as it is now, nothing will change.

i don't know the answer to this and can not afford to have a non-functioning computer while i work it out.

if partition magic 4.0 does not work on w2k, then perhaps i should get my hands on pm7.0 before i make this change. anyway, pm7.0 is suppose to work right from windows which would be a nice thing.
