Re: If only INTC were a monopoly like MSFT

That's the vision that has been driving Intel to mistake after mistake these past few years.

Intel's abandonment of Socket 7 and move to Slot 1 was going to give them a monopoly on CPUs through their ownership of the slot 1 interface.

Instead, it gave AMD a wide open Socket 7 market.

Intel's abandonment of mainstream memory was going to give them a CPU cost and time to market monopoly through their zero royalty and advanced technical information licensing deal with Rambus.

Instead it gave AMD a cost advantage with SDRAM and a huge lead in developing DDR platforms.

Intel's abandonment of the X86 instruction set was going to give them a monopoly on CPUs as the industry moves to 64 bits.

Instead it is giving AMD's X86-64 a huge opening.
