>>yes, w2k is installed on drive e.

I assume you mean drive D. So we'll try this.

Get to a computer you can use Notepad with. And have a 3.5in disk with you (same size as win98 boot disk).

Open up Notepad.

Copy this into the file:

[boot loader]
timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

Save the file as 'boot.ini' (make sure it doesn't save it as boot.ini.txt -- if so, rename it taking out the .txt)

Take out your disk and get to your broke pooter.

Say a prayer.

Boot it up with the Win98 disk. Once all is well and you have the black screen with the prompt, remove Win98 disk, insert your disk with boot.ini on it.

Type 'A:' (or whatever drive your disk is on)
Type 'dir' (to make sure the file name is boot.ini -- check it)

Now we need to copy boot.ini to the c drive.

Type 'copy boot.ini C:\'
Should say '1 files copied'

If so, time to see if it worked.

Say a longer prayer.

Remove your disks, and reboot the computer.

If that doesn't work, then you have restructured your hard-drive somehow, in a pattern, that only I would know if I was there. Let me know either way and I'll give it another shot.
